Commands in ARK: Survival Ascended
Most players eventually need admin commands in Ark Ascended. You start a new save, or you join someone's server, and you realize building from scratch or taming everything manually is going to take dozens of hours. The console is there, it just takes a few steps to unlock it. Open the console by pressing Tab. On some configurations it might be tilde (~). Once the input box appears, type your command. But there is a catch. You need permission to run admin commands on most servers. If you are the single-player host, you are fine. If you join a multiplayer server, the owner has to add you to the admin list first.
To promote yourself on a hosted session, use: enablecheats [password]
The password part is optional unless the server admin set one. After that, most cheat commands unlock for your local client. Note that these only work on single player or non-dedicated sessions where you are the host. Dedicated server admins need to add their steam ID to the server config before any of this works.

Here are the ones I actually use regularly. The spawn command is the bread and butter. givesupplycache
This drops a supply crate at your feet. It is faster than waiting for one to drop from a flyer. The crate contains random loot based on the difficulty settings of your island or map. For direct item spawning, the syntax is a bit more involved. You need the item ID, the quantity, and optionally a color index. The command looks like this:
gfi [itemname] [quantity] [level] So gfi primebeast saddle 1 0 gives you one saddle. The level parameter mostly matters for certain engrams and blueprints. If you leave it as zero you get the default version.
Teleportation commands come up constantly. There are three variants depending on where you want to go. tp to another player: tp [playername]
tp to coordinates: tp [X] [Y] [Z] tp to a structure: tpm [structureid]
The coordinate system runs across the whole map. On Scorched Earth, for example, the map stretches roughly from -10000 to 10000 on both axes. The Z value is altitude. If you teleport to Z=0 on a mountain you will spawn inside the rock. Always add at least 200 to the Z value if you are unsure. I learned that the hard way on Aberration when I teleported to a cave system and clipped into the ceiling. Had to reload from an earlier save. Killing things without getting close is useful when you are fighting bosses or dealing with aggressive dinosaurs. The direct damage command is:
tdm [amount] [targetplayerordinosaurid] The default amount does not kill most high-level dinos, so you need to experiment. I usually start with 5000 and scale up. The damage is applied instantly and bypasses most armor values.
Dropping a structure into the world uses the placestruct command. This is essential for base building on unofficial servers where you might have lost your inventory. placestruct [structureid] [distance] [height] [yaw] [pitch] [roll]

The parameters feel overwhelming but the defaults handle most cases. Just use placestruct 0 100 0 for a quick drop in front of you. For taming shortcuts, the imprint command saves time with baby raptors and other dino babies. Imprinting boosts their taming effectiveness and gives a temporary buff. The command to imprint immediately is:
ImprintDino [dinosaurid] You can also adjust stats directly during taming with the addlevel command, which skips the normal leveling curve entirely. It is handy but easy to mess up a dino's stats if you do not know the multiplier values.
Weather and time control matter on servers with dynamic day cycles. The setdaylength and setnighthlength commands adjust how long each phase lasts. I usually set it to 6 hours for day and 2 hours for night on my personal servers. That gives enough time to gather resources without forcing everyone to sleep through most of the game. There is a command I discovered by accident that most guides miss. The givexp command scales experience gains. It does not multiply XP directly but it changes the global experience modifier for the session. Use it like this:
gameplaygamedebugfov 90 Wait, that is the FOV command. Forget that one. The actual gameplay command is:
AddXP [xpamount] [skillname] You need the exact skill name string or it silently fails. Most players do not know the skill names. There is no in-game list. You have to look them up in the datatables or guess based on the internal naming convention. It costs time but it works once you figure it out.
Another edge case worth mentioning: the killself command does not always work on bosses. The Valguero boss fights, for instance, have scripts that prevent self-kills during the encounter. I spent ten minutes trying to debug why my command was failing before realizing the boss had a damage immunity phase active. The workaround is to use the sethealth command instead and reduce the boss HP directly to zero.
Where to find command reference
The official documentation is scattered. Studio Wildcard does not maintain a comprehensive command list for Ascended. The community relies on third-party wikis and Discord servers. The Ark Ascended wiki at ark.fandom.com has a commands section, but it is not always up to date after patches. Commands change between versions because the underlying engine shifted from Unreal Engine 4 to Unreal Engine 5. Some old Gen 1 commands still work, some do not. When searching for a specific command, include the version number in your query. A command that worked on build 380 might be removed or renamed on build 420. The game updates frequently enough that any static list becomes outdated within weeks.
If you want a downloadable reference, several community tools export command tables as CSV files. The Ark Toolbox project on GitHub keeps a decent list. It is not official but it is maintained by players who test commands against the latest builds. The download link is straightforward to find by searching for ark toolbox github. The tool itself is free and runs locally on Windows. It has a search bar and filters by category. There is no central in-game command browser. The console only accepts text input. You cannot browse available commands while playing. You need to keep a reference open in another window or print one out. I keep a text file with my most used commands and paste them into the console. It is faster than searching every time.
Common mistakes
New users often try to run commands on unofficial multiplayer servers without admin rights. The console will accept the input but return an error message that says nothing useful. It might just say the command failed or return an empty result. The real issue is permission. Check the server rules and ask the admin for your admin password if you need access. Another mistake is using commands on a character that is already dead. Most cheats require a living, conscious player. If your character is downed, the console might open but the commands will not affect the environment. You need to revive first or use the killself command to trigger a respawn before running cheats.
Pet commands like dismiss or givecommand work on tamed dinosaurs but they fail if the dino is under certain status effects. Bleeding enemies for instance prevent some commands from targeting them. The fix is to wait until the status expires or use heal to remove it first. Server owners should be careful with enablecheats on public servers. Anyone who knows the password can run any command. There is no rollback mechanism once you spawn rare items or change maps. The save file updates immediately. I once enabled cheats on a private server with six people and accidentally spawned a stack of 999 metal bars. The next day the server lag spiked because the save file grew too large. It took twenty minutes to restart and we lost about an hour of progress on the admin side.
The command list in Ascended is larger than in the original ARK but the stability is mixed. Some commands crash the game on certain maps. The teleport commands are the most reliable. Item spawning occasionally creates duplicate items that corrupt the save if you stack them too high. Keep quantities reasonable, below 500, and you avoid most issues. For advanced users who want to script commands or automate builds, the console supports basic variable syntax. You can store a coordinate or a player reference and reuse it. This is not documented anywhere obvious. You have to discover it through trial and error or dig through the Unreal Engine documentation for the scripting layer. The game does not expose a full scripting API like some other titles do. The command console is the closest thing to automation available.
The supply drop command is another one that behaves differently depending on the biome. In volcanic zones the crate lands faster but with different loot tables. Players on The Island notice this more than on other maps. If you are farming for specific materials, do not rely solely on supply drops. The randomness favors high-tier items on harder difficulties, but the variance is significant. On normal difficulty you might open fifty crates before finding a single primal crystal. On nightmare difficulty it happens much more often but the enemies are brutal. If you are looking for a complete list of commands and their current status, search for "comandos ark ascended" on community forums and the wiki. The best reference is the community-maintained tables because they update with each patch. Official sources lag behind by several weeks at minimum.
